TEC Update #4
Exciting things are in the works as we get closer to our Summer of Renewal and Refreshment! Sierra Kacher, our new Canon for TEC and Youth Ministries will be starting on April 1 and is currently in the process of moving herself, her grandmother and her dog to Rapid City. Sierra has graciously been a part of several meetings already even though she hasn’t officially started and is excited to get going!
Have you purchased your Quilt Raffle tickets yet? There is still time to do so. You can purchase them through April 5th. Drawing for the quilt will take place on Facebook Live on April 6th. Tickets are $5 a piece or an incredible 5 for $20. They can be purchased online through the Diocesan web page.
The $50,000 Challenge Grant is off to a great start. So far we have had donations in the amount of $4109. Sales of Quilt Raffle tickets do not count in this Challenge. Donations can be made online through the website or by mailing a check with Thunderhead Challenge in the memo to the Diocesan Offices. Please consider a gift of whatever size you can afford so that we can make the most of this opportunity!
We are still looking for TEC Ambassadors for each congregation or reservation. A TEC Ambassador is simply someone who cares about TEC and is willing to be a point person for communicating information to their congregations. Each Ambassador will receive a media kit with posters and information as well as being emailed a powerpoint presentation which can be shown at congregations if possible. If you are interested in serving in this role, please contact Kim Folts at kimberlyfolts@gmail.com with your name, congregation and contact information.
We are excited to announce that contracts are in the works to begin much needed repairs to Super Tent. Weather permitting, this work will begin in early April and will hopefully be completed in about 6 weeks. This work includes the solving of serious drainage issues as well as the construction of a brand new deck to replace our old one that was beginning to show signs of rot.
We are also pleased to announce the dates for our summer series called “Becoming TEC Saavy” (thank you Bishop for the great name!). These nights will take place throughout the Diocese and will consist of dinner, slideshow, activities for the children and a chance to meet Sierra and learn more about what is in store at Thunderhead! These events are open to families, camp alumni, and anyone who wants to be a part of this type of evening. The dates for these events are currently set as follows (subject to possible change but with lots of warning):
Bishop Hare Center on Rosebud: 6/20
Cathedral in Sioux Falls 6/22
Niobrara Convocation (This event will be in the form of a presentation, not like others)
Holy Comforter Lower Brule 7/11
All Angels Spearfish 7/18
Emmanuel Rapid City 7/20
St. James Enemy Swim 7/25
Pine Ridge 7/26 or 27
As we get the details tightened up there will be more information and places to RSVP for these events. Pick one that works for you and plan to join us!
In addition, there will be two work weeks and one final clean up weekend. These will be opportunities for volunteers to come to TEC and help us with all of the projects that we have ahead of us from cleaning and sorting, to painting cabins, to yardwork, etc. Room and board will be provided and workers are welcome to come for all or a part of any of these events. The dates are as follows: 6/7-14, 6/28-7/5 and 8/23-25. The week of 6/28 to 7/5 will include a special Bishop’s BBQ on July 4th. Again, as time progresses we will have registration information available.
Stayed tuned for more updates soon! And please plan to join us for the events of the summer and don’t forget to get your donations in for our Grant Challenge. As always, if you have any questions let us know!!
