Deepest Sympathies

The Rev. Paul Brisbane died on Friday, December 8, 2023 in Coldwater.  

 Paul graduated with his M. Div. from Church Divinity School of the Pacific in 1962 and was ordained to the diaconate at St. Mark's, Coldwater, his home parish. He served in Brookings, SD as a curate before his ordination as priest in 1963. He began his priesthood serving on the Rosebud Reservation where he was priest-in-charge of three chapels and chaplain of the Rosebud Boarding School and Bishop Hare Mission Home. 

He later went on to serve many churches, individually and in clusters, including Platteville, Lancaster, Prairie du Chien, and Mineral Point, Wisconsin; Independence, Neodesha, Fredonia, and Goodland, Kansas; Lake View, New York; and Meeker, Colorado. In the Diocese of Western Michigan, he served as interim rector with St. James, Albion, 1983-84 and St. Barnabas, Portage in 1984. 

After his retirement in 2001, he returned to Coldwater and continued to serve as a supply priest for several years, including with St. Paul's, Dowagiac; Resurrection, Battle Creek; St. Mark's, Paw Paw; Trinity, Marshall; St. Barnabas, Portage; Trinity, Niles; St. John's, Sturgis; and St. Mark's, Coldwater.  

 A funeral service will be held at St. Mark's, Coldwater May 25, 2024 with interment in the St. Mark's Memorial Garden and Columbarium. 

 In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the St. Mark's Endowment Foundation, 27 E. Chicago St., Coldwater, MI 49036. 

 Please hold Paul’s family and friends in your prayers as they grieve and celebrate his life, especially his wife, Judy; children and step-children, Kathleen (Scott), Elizabeth (Kevin), Patricia (Don), William (Trish), Hope (Nate), Shane; and 18 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
