The Rev. Dr. James Foster was ordained to the Sacred Order of the Priesthood on Thursday, November 30th, the Feast of St. Andrew the Apostle, by the Rt. Rev. Dr. Jonathan H. Folts, XI Bishop of South Dakota. St. Andrew is the Patron Saint of Scotland. The service was held at Grace Episcopal Church, Madison, where he serves two Sundays a month. James+ was sponsored for ordination by Calvary Cathedral.
James+ is Associate Professor of Theology and Philosophy at the University of Sioux Falls, where he has taught since August 2013. He holds Master of Divinity and Master of Theology degrees and a Ph.D. in Philosophy and Theology, all from Princeton Theological Seminary. From August 2012 to July 2013, he was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. He is the director of the Institute for the Study of Scottish Philosophy and the editor of the Journal of Scottish Philosophy.
His wife, the Rev. Robyn Shores Foster, was ordained a permanent deacon on January 5th, 2019, at Calvary Cathedral. She is a Clinical Social Worker and provides counseling services through Shores Clinic, LLC in Sioux Falls. At Calvary, Robyn+ oversees children’s ministries and is in the regular rotation of deacons serving for Sunday worship.
James+ and Robyn+ have two children, Rennie and Rory.
